Here are 5 top spots for lobster rolls on Cape Cod
Being a seafood-snob is a real thing. You may think native New Englanders abuse their right to brag, but once you bite into one of their famous lobster rolls, you’ll have no choice but to surrender to their superiority. Anyone who’s anyone knows that Cape Cod is the prime destination for one of these bad boys. Here are our 5 favorite local-approved lobster roll spots that you should hit this summer.
1. Brax Landing, Harwich Port
Although you’ll find most of the best lobster rolls at divey counter-serve spots, Brax’s sit-down restaurant serves up one of the finest. The massive roll comes lightly toasted, the lobster is seasoned to perfection, and the sweet potato fries are to die for. Not to mention, all of this is happening while you look out at the beautiful Saquatucket Harbor. Could life get any better? Pro-tip: They don’t take reservations so your best bet is to avoid peak hours!
2. Sesuit Harbor Cafe, Dennis
Sesuit Harbor has some of the best real estate on the Cape. The little weathered beach shack sits atop a sand dune whose picnic tables and outdoor raw bar are in a prime spot to watch boats come in and out of the harbor. Their lobster roll is simple: an average-sized bun, a touch of warm butter, and oversized chunks of lobster meat piled high. Don’t be intimidated by the long line outside -- the counter service always moves fast. Plus, the best part about Sesuit Harbor Cafe? It’s BYOB!
3. Skipper Chowder House, South Yarmouth
The Skipper Chowder House, or “tha skippa,” as locals refer to it, is a historical favorite. Complete with unobstructed views of Nantucket Sound and three sizes of lobster rolls (you can order up to half a pound of meat!), there’s no beating it. If you can still find room to breathe after your meal, top it off with a cone from their old-fashioned ice cream shack!
4. Moby Dick’s, Wellfleet
Nestled among Cape Cod’s marshland, Moby Dick’s conveniently sits on Route 6 for all those “hangry” people enduring Provincetown traffic. Moby Dick’s is a spacious counter-service restaurant that’s ideal for large family gatherings. Their lobster roll is one of the freshest and richest that you’ll find on the upper Cape. They also have one of the friendliest staffs in town, often employing international college students if you’re keen on Irish accents.
5. Captain Frosty’s, Dennis
Captain Frosty’s is a true seasonal staple, complete with cozy wooden interiors, an outdoor patio, and the best creamy New England “chowda.” Although they are most renowned for their melt-in-your-mouth fried seafood platters, their lobster roll is award-winning in over 7 publications. In addition to the standard fries and coleslaw, you’ll get two of their famous clam cakes on the side. You might have to be rolled out of there by the time you finish, but trust us, it’s worth it.
Happy Eating!
